Role Overview UNSW Canberra invites a dedicated and experienced Research Associate/Post-Doctoral Fellow to join the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences (BEES) and work on marine restoration and ecology projects, including Operation Posidonia. The position is managed via the Sydney Institute of Marine Science and requires extensive underwater field work. Key Details Level A – $113,000–$121,000 plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading Fixed term – 2 years Full‑time – 35 hours per week Location – Sydney Institute of Marine Science, Sydney, Australia Responsibilities Conceptualise, design and conduct marine restoration research and support projects. li>Produce technical reports, manuscripts for publication and grant proposals. Present at conferences and workshops, and support teaching activities. Supervise and mentor research students, and assist with student assessment. Communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including Indigenous owners. Coordinate project administration, workshops, meetings and status reporting. Plan and complete marine research activities within agreed timelines. Monitor project deliverables to meet time, cost and quality metrics. Maintain research protocols and troubleshoot experimental issues. Manage lab and field supplies, finances and equipment, including underwater and mesocosm systems. Collect and process biological samples and assist with data analysis. Adopt the university Code of Conduct, values and health and safety policies. Qualifications A PhD in marine biology, marine ecology, marine science or a related field, with relevant experience. Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations. Knowledge of research protocols, experimental design and ability to conduct high‑quality research independently. Team collaboration, initiative and independent project management experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail. Strong time‑management skills and ability to meet competing deadlines. Experience with computer systems and applications. Extensive SCUBA diving experience and certifications (e.g. PADI Scientific Diver, Dive Master, Instructor or ADAS). Commitment to UNSW values, policies and relevant health and safety training.
