Safety & Compliance Officer - Port Melbourne Join to apply for the Safety & Compliance Officer - Port Melbourne role at National Heavy Vehicle Regulator The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) commenced operations in 2013 as the national entity responsible for regulating all heavy vehicles with a gross vehicle mass over 4.5 tonnes. For more information about working at the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator please watch our short video Our Safety & Compliance Officers We have 3 full time permanent positions available Our Safety and Compliance officers are currently located across New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, the ACT, South Australia and Queensland. Due to growth NHVR are now expanding our Queensland team. Working as part of a large national on‑roads operations unit, you are at the frontline in keeping our roads safe by monitoring heavy vehicles, working with industry and applying the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL). Please note: These positions require flexible availability due to working a rotating roster which includes morning, afternoon, night shifts and weekends. You will be provided rosters 4 weeks in advance post training. For more information about National Heavy Vehicle Regulator Safety and Compliance Officers, please watch our short video Your role will include: Providing advice, education and guidance in the awareness of road safety for heavy vehicles in the community. Work cohesively as a team to ensure we deliver activities in accordance with relevant road transport laws, regulations and process. Frequent work outside normal office hours, weekends and public holidays to meet operational requirements. Intra and interstate travel to support other operational teams. What’s on offer We are offering full time, permanent positions in Port Melbourne (Deploying Either Dandenong South or Epping based on your location) Ongoing professional development, support and training Rostered day off and additional leave during Christmas closure Access to wellbeing programs including Fitness Passport and discounted health insurance Up to 14.25% superannuation with co-contribution scheme Access to salary packaging including novated lease Supportive team and work environment A competitive salary of $111,852.52 + superannuation + applicable allowances About You Demonstrated experience in delivering a high standard of customer service Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills where you can foster effective relationships and maintain records Flexibility to work varying shift times and weekends, and undertake travel Demonstrated commitment and passion for road safety Established computer skills - including experience with Microsoft Word and Outlook High level of ethics and a pragmatic approach; familiar with exercising professional judgement and can provide effective conflict management Growth mindset and team player attitude Experience in working with a range of policies and procedures Mechanical qualifications or skills (highly desirable) Successful candidates will be required to commence around 12 th January 2026 and will start a comprehensive 6‑month training program from February 2026. Through the initial 6 months training and assessment, candidates will be required to travel to various locations to undertake seven 10‑day blocks of training at a time. Travel away from home and week‑long stays will be required to undertake this training.
