Medical Laboratory Assistant - Anatomical Pathology Employment Type : Temporary Full Time up to 13 November 2026 with potential availability of ongoing employment Position Classification : Technical Assistant Grade 2 Remuneration : $64,364.88 – $66,830.31 per annum plus superannuation Hours per Week : 38 Requisition ID : REQ Location : Liverpool Hospital Applications Close : 01 December 2025 – 11:59 pm About The Opportunity : NSW Health Pathology is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the Histology sector of our Anatomical Pathology Laboratory at Liverpool Hospital. The laboratory provides a full area service to several hospitals within the South West Sydney Local Health District, including Liverpool, Fairfield, Campbelltown, Bankstown, Camden and Bowral hospitals. The department is busy, large and multicultural; the successful applicant will work within a rotating roster with other staff to cover duties during laboratory operating hours. What We Can Offer You Accrued days off in addition to annual leave Generous salary packaging options and other fringe benefits Corporate well‑being programmes, including the Fitness Passport Learning and development opportunities, including in‑house training with RTO My Health Learning What You'll Be Doing This position will be responsible for delivering a range of operational laboratory activities, including participation in ongoing review, development and quality management of laboratory practices to ensure compliance with operational standards and procedures, quality standards and continual process improvement. Duties include histology specimen accessioning, troubleshooting and processing, assisting medical/technical/scientific staff with direct, non‑complex and complex surgical cut‑ups, training of new staff, and associated quality control exercises. Other duties include preparation of materials/chemicals, loading tissue processors, stores, filing, maintenance of equipment and specimen/consumables collection and delivery. Qualifications and Experience Demonstrated experience in histology specimen accessioning, troubleshooting and processing, and assisting with surgical cut‑ups (direct, non‑complex and complex); training of new staff; and associated quality control exercises. Demonstrated experience in other laboratory duties including preparation of materials/chemicals, loading tissue processors, stores, filing, maintenance of equipment and specimen/consumables collection and delivery. Ability to manage tasks in a demanding environment with competing priorities and time constraints, both independently and as part of a team. Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers, internally and externally. Demonstrated problem‑solving and analytical skills combined with the ability to investigate and resolve general issues. Proficient computer and data‑entry skills with high attention to detail and data accuracy. Understanding of confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive information in a laboratory setting, following relevant legislation, policies and requirements. Willingness to participate in a 24/7 rotating shift roster, including weekends, public holidays and night shifts, and the ability to travel to any site or location within the operational area as required.
