Leading Teacher – Role Overview Leading teachers are highly skilled classroom practitioners who undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role improves the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce and enhances the curriculum program in a school or group of schools. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the implementation of whole‑school improvement initiatives related to the school strategic plan and government priorities. Lead and manage the implementation of whole‑school improvement strategies related to curriculum planning and delivery. Lead and support professional learning activities. Lead and manage the Performance and Development Plans of a group of teachers within Professional Learning Teams. Provide teaching demonstration lessons. Lead and manage the development of the school’s assessment and reporting policies and practices. Lead and manage the implementation of the school operations and policies related to student well‑being and discipline. Lead the development of curriculum in a major learning area and participate in curriculum development in other areas. Take responsibility for general discipline matters beyond the management of classroom teachers. Contribute to the overall leadership and management of the school. Contribute to the development of proposals for school council consideration. Drive the ongoing development and implementation of the school code of conduct. Specific Role Accountabilities – Team Culture and Student Outcomes Play a lead role in the implementation of actions designed to improve the learning outcomes of all students guided by key strategies such as the school’s AIP and the DET Framework for Improving Student Outcomes (FISO). Work collaboratively with teams, sharing data, co‑planning a differentiated curriculum and reflecting on practice. Plan to make effective use of learning spaces for the benefit of both students and staff. Assist members of teams to meet their performance review and accountability requirements. Support teachers to implement effective teaching processes and strategies that are documented to improve student learning. Support the development of classroom instructional capacity based on the school’s Instructional Model using peer observation, learning walks, coaching/mentoring, PLCs/Sprints and feedback for staff. Work collaboratively with school leadership and other teams to implement the student reporting and assessment model. Facilitate staff professional learning where required. Partner with school leadership to ensure all identified students within the 7‑10 cohort (Indigenous, DI, and Out of Home Care) have Individual Education Plans. Whole School Data Analysis Portfolio Oversee whole‑school data analysis, collection, and monitoring. Collate data for distribution to staff or staff groups as needed. Lead the building of data literacy across the school. Actively participate in School Improvement Team meetings and planning. Who May Apply Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
