As a Transport Care & Custody Officer, you play a critical role in safely and respectfully escorting people in custody between police stations, courts, prisons and other approved locations. This work is grounded in responsibility, effective communication and ensuring every individual is always treated with dignity in every interaction. As a Transport Care & Custody Officer, you’ll make a positive impact by: Transporting people in custody safely and respectfully between approved locations Communicating clearly with your team and the Operations Centre to keep each movement coordinated Staying aware of risk and using good judgement to maintain safety throughout each journey Treating people with dignity, privacy and fairness in all interactions Preparing for each shift through briefings and updates so movements are planned and managed well Keeping accurate records and reporting key information as required Serco is a place for you If you've got the heart, integrity, and drive to make a difference, you're our ideal candidate. You could be a great fit if you have: A calm, steady approach in fast-moving situations Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team Sound judgement and attention to detail Respect for others and a commitment to treating people with dignity The confidence to follow procedures and stay focused under pressure A reliable, responsible mindset and a willingness to learn You’ll also need: A current Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain one The ability to satisfactorily pass a National Police Check, and obtain the relevant State Approval process in accordance with the Ministry of Justice for VicPol and Corrections Victoria requirements Meet the entry level requirements to obtain a Certificate III Correctional Practice Meet the physical fitness standards to ensure you have the capability to perform the role safely, including extended periods of standing, walking and securing individuals Australian Work Rights The initial training course will commence on Monday, 9 February 2026. Given the tight timeframe, your full commitment is essential to complete the recruitment process, meet the compliance requirements, and attend your pre-employment medical without delay. Assessment Centres will run from Monday, 5 January to Sunday, 11 January 2026, and you must be available to attend on one of these days. If you are successful, you must also be able to commence the course on Monday, 9 February 2026. Please note that leave cannot be approved during the training course, which runs for the first seven weeks. Full attendance is required to ensure all learning modules are completed.
