Manager of Finance

Full‑time position (with 12 Rostered Days Off per year) Salary of $137,948 plus generous superannuation of 23% (following probation) Attractive collective agreement: including hybrid work model (3 in office / 2 from home), annual pay increases, 5 weeks annual leave (plus loading) and access to salary packaging Victorian Labor is seeking a qualified and experienced Manager of Finance and Compliance to lead a small team dedicated to ensuring strong financial management, robust compliance practices and accurate reporting across the organisation. In this role, you will be a key member of the Victorian Branch senior leadership team and will manage the budgeting, financial planning, and statutory reporting obligations, while ensuring compliance with all relevant local, state and federal legislation. The position will report to the State Secretary. The preferred candidate will be proactive, detail‑orientated and confident in providing strategic and operational advice on financial and compliance matters. Key responsibilities: Lead the development and management of financial budgets and plans, including appropriate forecasting, risk assessments and adherence to statutory reporting requirements. Oversee the collection and collation of all stakeholder unit and Branch financial transactions for the consolidation of annual returns. Supervise the organisation’s bank accounts to ensure compliance with Australian Banking Association code of practice and Branch rules. Manage compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations surrounding fundraising (at local, state and federal levels). Ensure the team follow recommendations and advice from the organisation’s governing bodies and external auditors to build and maintain Branch compliance. Prepare fortnightly payroll processing and related remittances. About you As our ideal candidate, you will possess: A relevant tertiary qualification in accounting and/or finance. Proven ability to provide financial, compliance and governance leadership that delivers organisational best practice. Significant experience working with boards and finance, risk and audit sub‑committees. Extensive budgetary and financial reporting experience. A high degree of proficiency in accounting software (specifically MYOB Accountright) and Australian Accounting Standards. Ability to effectively manage a small team and plan workloads to meet deadlines. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence and manage relationships effectively to achieve objectives. A sound level of political awareness and judgement along with the ability to read situations and act to support and enhance the reputation and effectiveness of Victorian Labor.
