Schools Officer, Facilities – Southport State School Queensland Department of Education – Southport, Queensland, Australia Southport State School is on the lookout for a reliable, skilled, and independent Schools Officer to maintain the grounds to a high standard and ensure the delivery of basic facility needs. About the school: Southport State School is a medium‑sized primary school offering education from Prep to Year 6, committed to fostering an inclusive, supportive environment for students, staff, and the wider community. You will work in a dynamic team and enjoy the satisfaction of maintaining a space that fosters learning and growth. Key Responsibilities Perform day‑to‑day tasks such as delivering mail, setting up classrooms, and maintaining school supplies. Support security duties, including locking/unlocking buildings and maintaining security systems. Undertake grounds maintenance, including mowing, gardening, and caring for outdoor sporting facilities. Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety standards, including safe storage and handling of chemicals and equipment. Coordinate repairs and liaise with tradespersons to maintain school facilities. Attend to and arrange repairs and maintenance within the school, including furniture and equipment. Liaise with various internal and external personnel (e.g. tradespersons). Required Traits Experience in groundskeeping, facilities maintenance, or similar roles. Strong organisational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and follow set instructions. Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices. Effective communication skills to liaise with staff, students, and external personnel.
