About the Role As our Lead Naturopath/Formulator, you will be at the forefront of developing new supplement products that are effective, safe, and ready for market. This full-time role (on-site at our Brisbane facility or remote/hybrid) bridges the gap between R&D and manufacturing. You’ll design and refine formulations for a range of powder, liquid, and capsule supplements, optimise doses based on the latest evidence, and ensure each formula can be efficiently scaled up for production. You will have lots of variety, as a contract manufacturer our clients range from single-ingredient products to complex 40+ ingredient blends. You will directly enable our manufacturing and quality team by troubleshooting formulation challenges and facilitating a scale-up from sample to factory floor. Ultimately, you will play a key role in turning the vision of each of our clients into a manufacturable and marketable product – shaping innovative health products and helping emerging brands go to market. Key Responsibilities Develop and optimize supplement formulations (powder blends, capsule fills) using evidence-based ingredients and clinically relevant dosages. Create product formulas from concept or client brief, focusing on efficacy, safety, and market appeal. Translate concepts into scalable, production-ready formulations that meet cost, quality, and regulatory requirements. Conduct bench trials and stability testing as needed to ensure product integrity over shelf life. Oversee the scale-up process, from pilot batches to full manufacturing runs. Work closely with the production team to adjust for taste, flow, solubility, and other practical factors so that each formula runs smoothly on manufacturing equipment. Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure success of each product: liaise with procurement on sourcing high-quality raw materials, with quality assurance on documentation and GMP compliance, and with clients on meeting their product vision. Resolve any formulation or ingredient issues during production to maintain batch consistency. Ensure regulatory and documentation compliance for all formulations. Keep meticulous formulation records, nutritional panels, and ingredient specifications. Formulate within FSANZ guidelines for food supplements and be aware of TGA boundaries for ingredients/claims (while we focus on food-grade products, an understanding of the wider regulatory landscape is expected). Work with our team to make sure each product meets all relevant standards before it hits the market. Ideal Candidate Profile Qualifications & Background Tertiary qualification in Naturopathy (or related health science field) is required. You may also have a degree in Nutrition, Herbal Medicine, or Pharmaceutical Science. A strong foundation in physiology and chemistry is important for formulation work. Formulation Experience Proven experience (3+ years) in nutraceutical or supplement product development, R&D, or formulation roles. You have created or worked on powder and capsule formulations before and understand the nuances of each dosage form (e.g. flavouring powders, capsule fill density). Hands‑on lab work and some exposure to production or manufacturing processes is highly preferred. Technical Knowledge In-depth knowledge of herbal, nutritional, and nutraceutical ingredients, including how to utilise extracts, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, etc., in evidence-based combinations. Familiarity with excipients and functional additives (flow agents, sweeteners, flavourings) to improve taste, stability, and manufacturability is essential. You understand ingredient functionality, interactions, and how to troubleshoot formulation issues such as poor mixing or ingredient segregation. Regulatory & Quality Awareness Good understanding of the Australian regulatory environment for supplements. You know how to ensure a formula meets FSANZ standards for foods and when a product would be considered a TGA-listed complementary medicine. While you won’t be handling regulatory approvals, your awareness ensures our formulations stay compliant. Knowledge of GMP and quality systems in manufacturing is expected. Skills & Attributes Evidence-based mindset with strong research skills – you stay up to date on the latest clinical studies and trends in natural health to inform your formulations. High attention to detail in documentation and dosage calculations. Problem-solving abilities to address formulation challenges (e.g. improving a powder’s solubility or a tablet’s stability). Excellent communication and collaboration skills – able to work with a diverse team of production staff, clients, and other stakeholders to drive projects forward. What’s on Offer Competitive Salary: Base salary in the range of $85,000 – $105,000 AUD + superannuation, commensurate with your experience and expertise.
