As a Motor Mechanic, you will carry out a full range of light-vehicle mechanical services and repairs. Your work will align with the tasks described in the ANZSCO Motor Mechanic (General) classification, ensuring vehicles meet national standards of performance, safety and roadworthiness. Key Responsibilities Detect and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, brakes and related vehicle systems. Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other components as required; inspect parts for wear or damage. Repair or replace worn, defective or faulty parts and re‑assemble mechanical components according to manufacturer service manuals and workshop standards. Perform scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, engine tune‑ups, log‑book servicing, to ensure smooth vehicle performance and compliance with emissions and vehicle standards. Test and adjust mechanical and electrical parts after repair for proper performance using diagnostic tools and computer‑based systems where applicable. Inspect vehicles and, where applicable, report work required to achieve road‑worthiness and assist with issuing certificates or documentation. Maintain workshop tools, equipment and work‑area in a safe, organised condition; adhere to OHS, safe vehicle‑lifting, hazardous fluids handling and environmental disposal procedures. Communicate effectively with colleagues, service advisors and customers: explain diagnostics, recommend repairs/services, provide cost‑estimates and communicate status of work. Maintain records of work performed, parts used, service hours, and ensure compliance with workshop administrative requirements and quality standards. Requirements & Skills Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (or equivalent) or trade qualification in vehicle mechanics, OR substantial full‑time experience (minimum 3 years) in a similar role. Proven diagnostic and repair skills for petrol/light‑vehicle engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, braking systems and basic electrical/electronic systems. Experience using diagnostic and computer‑based vehicle fault‑finding tools and service manuals. Good communication skills, with ability to work as part of a team and engage with customers in a professional manner. Strong safety awareness, and the capacity to follow safe working practices, workshop procedures and environmental standards. Ability to manage workflows, meet servicing and repair targets, and deliver high‑quality workmanship under time constraints. A current driver’s licence and an eligible right to work in Australia.
