2026 Neonatal Medical Officer – The Royal Women’s Hospital, Parkville, Victoria (Australia) Full time (1.0 FTE) fixed term from 2 Feb 2026 – 31 Jan 2027. 5 weeks annual leave. About the Hospital The Royal Women’s Hospital is one of Australia’s oldest and most distinguished tertiary hospitals dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of women and newborns. About the Team The Women’s is a tertiary level maternal and neonatal referral hospital, with about 7 000 births per year and a major referral for infants with fetal anomalies. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit admits about 2 000 patients per year, many less than 28 weeks or under 1 000 gm. The Department employs 14 Consultant Neonatologists, 12 full‑time equivalent Neonatal Clinical Fellows, 20 Neonatal NMOs and 3 Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (aNNP). It is a major teaching hospital with academic affiliation with the University of Melbourne and the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. About the Role NMOs are an essential member of our multidisciplinary care team and are responsible for the day‑to‑day care of neonates and their families, under the close supervision of a fellow and consultant. NMOs are rostered to provide medical care to infants in the NICU, special care nursery, postnatal wards and the emergency department of the Women’s (WEC). They attend high‑risk deliveries and neonatal emergencies. Responsibilities include ward rounds, presentation on rounds, maintenance of EMR and close consultation on provisional diagnoses and treatment.
