We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated Science Technician to join the Science team at Kirwan State High School. As a Science Technician you will support the Head of Department, teachers and laboratory staff in managing the school science department. This is a progression position as per the Role Description. The applicant will be appointed to the lower classification with eligibility for progression once specific criteria are met or demonstrated. Salary reflects both classification ranges. About The Role The Science Technician supports the science department by ensuring smooth operation of laboratories and resources. The role involves technical and administrative tasks contributing to effective teaching and learning outcomes. Key Responsibilities Prepare, distribute, and set up scientific materials and equipment for practical teaching laboratory use. Maintain a safe and organized environment in science classrooms, storerooms and laboratories. Safely manage chemical hazards and laboratory waste in compliance with departmental guidelines. Provide quality advice to teaching staff on technical components of the curriculum, including STEM initiatives. Assist with field‑trip preparations, record keeping and inventory management. About You Experience working in a laboratory or similar technical environment. Strong organisational and time‑management skills. Knowledge of chemical handling and safety procedures. Ability to work independently and anticipate needs within the science department. Interest in promoting STEM initiatives and engaging students in science pathways.
