About the Role We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual advocate to provide support and assistance to people who are looking to apply to the National Redress Scheme. The National Redress Scheme is for survivors of historic child sexual abuse in relation to an institutional setting. The ideal candidate will have experience working in advocacy roles with a strong commitment to social justice and have experience working with people with disability who have lived experience of trauma and abuse. This is a maximum term contract of 1 year. Key Skills Excellent communication skills : Clear and effective verbal and written communication. Empathy and compassion towards others : Genuine understanding and care for others emotions. Strong organisational skills : Efficiently manage multiple tasks and maintain accuracy. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team : Self‑motivated and collaborative team player. Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations : Thorough understanding of industry laws and compliance. Responsibilities Assist individuals in navigating the redress process including providing them with information on their rights and options including accessing counselling and legal advice. Engage and liaise with the National Redress Scheme. Engage with potential and current Redress applicants and determine additional information required for their application and provide this to the National Redress Scheme. Advocate on behalf of individuals to ensure their needs are met effectively. Maintain accurate records of client interactions and progress successes and challenges. Collaborate with other team members to provide comprehensive support for clients. Public speaking and traveling to engage with rural and remote communities are key aspects of this role. Requirements Previous experience in an advocacy role. Degree or equivalent education in social work psychology or related field or have at least 5 years experience. Knowledge of social justice issues affecting vulnerable populations. Experience engaging with people who have lived experience of trauma. Experience working with diverse populations. Experience in completing complex applications. This is a full-time role based in NSW. Remuneration and Benefits Award Classification : Level 5.1 Social Community Home Care & Disability Services (SCHADS) Award 2010. PWDA pays above‑award rates as per our Enterprise Bargaining Agreement. Fringe Benefits Tax benefits provide you with the option to salary package up to $15900.
