Clinical Nurse Consultant - Diabetes Education The Royal Children’s Hospital’s (RCH) Vision is “A world where all kids thrive”. Diabetes in School’s Credentialled Diabetes Educator – CNC C Work for Australia’s leading Children’s Hospital Friendly and supportive team environment About the Role This is a Fixed Term Part Time position at 48 hours per fortnight within the Department of Endocrinology & Diabetes, Diabetes Allied Health Team. You will be responsible for the provision of Diabetes In Schools services delivery, providing face to face training for school staff to assist them in supporting children and young people with their diabetes management whilst at school. As part of this role, you will be required to travel to schools to deliver training as per the Diabetes In Schools Program model of care. Classification for this position will range from ZA7-Z A8 (base salary between $129,048.40 to $132,116.40 per annum pro‑rata, plus superannuation). What you’ll achieve You will provide expert clinical knowledge and skills in the assessment and management of patients living with diabetes. Lead the diabetes management education of teachers and other school staff according to the Diabetes In Schools program model of care. Provide individualised diabetes care plans for patients in the context of schools or other educational settings. Maintain and update specific diabetes and Diabetes In Schools program databases, ensuring security and integrity of data. Your skills and experience Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) administered through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Office of the Chief Nurse 2025. Current registration as a Credentialed Diabetes Educator by the Australian Diabetes Educators Association or a Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education and working towards ADEA credentialing. Experience in the education and support of patients with diabetes is essential particularly in relation to the use of insulin pump and CGM devices. Current Victorian Driver's Licence. About the Department The Diabetes service at RCH cares for over 1,300 children and adolescents with diabetes from metropolitan Melbourne and a further 200 children from regional Victoria with 2-5 new patients diagnosed per week. The RCH diabetes service is involved in active primary care, education, family support, research and advocacy for children and adolescents living with diabetes. The service currently provides in‑patient and ambulatory stabilisation of newly diagnosed patients, general inpatient and outpatient services, multidisciplinary outpatient clinics and Diabetes In Schools services. The Diabetes In Schools service is run in conjunction with the RCH, Diabetes Australia and Diabetes Victorian and is funded by the Federal Government. The program aims to provide nationally consistent information and training for principals and school staff, so students living with type 1 diabetes can be supported to manage their condition at school and participate fully in school activities.
