Aboriginal Support Coordinator - Distress Support Services Posted: 28/11/2025 Closing Date: 15/12/2025 Job Type: Contract Location: Charlestown Employer: Social Futures We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate Aboriginal Support Coordinator to join our Distress Support Program across Greater Newcastle. This program is a community-based, non-clinical support service that provides immediate, compassionate assistance to adults experiencing situational, emotional, or psychological distress and connects them to longer term support. Qualifications & Experience Aboriginality: Being Aboriginal is a genuine occupational qualification under Section 14 of the Anti‑Discrimination Act of 1977 (NSW) Understanding and commitment to Aboriginal communities respecting traditional culture, values, and ways of doing business Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in mental health, psychology, social work, social science, social welfare, health promotion or similar At least 2 years’ experience in a community services setting Experience providing person‑centred support, assessment and case management with people in distress Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills, and ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with all people Well‑developed organisational, time‑management and administrative skills; ability to plan, prioritise and meet deadlines Experience maintaining professional boundaries while engaging in person‑centred work Mandatory Requirements Working with Children and a National Police Check How To Apply A copy of your CV A brief cover letter that outlines why you are a good fit for the role Applications close Monday 15 December.
