Food Technology Assistant St Joseph’s College is a Catholic school in the Salesian tradition. Preamble The Food Technology Assistant works closely with the teachers of Food Technology and Food Studies and contributes to the overall success of this area. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Loyalty to the College and its staff. Ability to work flexibly. Skills / Training needed Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong organisational skills. Good understanding of the operations of a secondary school. Excellent food handling skills. First Aid Level 2 (or willingness to obtain this). Anaphylaxis training – ASCIA e‑training for Victorian Schools with verification within 30 days. Completion of DET mandatory reporting e‑learning module (non‑government schools). Relevant food handling certificate highly desirable (e.g. Department of Health Victoria’s food safety course recommended). Child Safe Standards Committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people. Understand the Child Safe Standards and legal obligations under Ministerial Order No. 1359. Suitable to work with children and young people. Understand and commit to Child Safe Standards and expectations relating to Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS), PROTECT, VRQA and VIT. Commit to Child Safety protocols, Codes of Conduct and the College’s Child Safe focus. Duties Communicate equipment requirements as required by the department. Communicate relevant matters to the Technology Leader. Set up materials/equipment for all practical classes. Assist teachers and students in all practical classes. Consult with teachers on practical classes as required. Ensure all equipment and kitchen areas are left clean and tidy before dismissal. Maintain order and cleanliness of kitchen, fridges, cool rooms and storerooms. Ensure washing and drying of tea towels after each practical class. Clean cool rooms and storerooms at least once per term. Communicate relevant matters to Maintenance (e.g. exhausts, air‑conditioners, ceiling fans). Administer online ordering. Assist with maintaining financial records of Food Technology expenditure. Clean ovens, stoves tops and sides; clean individual kitchen areas including equipment under sinks. Check that all equipment is clean and in working order. Check inventory to ensure required equipment is present. Check that appliances have all their fittings. Clean out perishable food from fridges and cool rooms as appropriate to term. Defrost areas where appropriate. Wash and dry items such as tea towels, tablecloths, first aid items (e.g. pillow slips/sheets). Assist during work hours with particular College events (e.g. set‑up/pack‑up of catering items). Order and maintain milk etc. in staff areas, adjusting for term and holiday time. Other duties as advised by the Principal (or delegate) and/or Technology Leader, including general administrative duties. Key Performance Indicators Complete duties in a professional and timely manner. Demonstrate teamwork. Respond effectively to constructive feedback. Participate in an appropriate professional development plan. Terms and Conditions Salaries and conditions are set by CEMEA 2022. The position is Category B and reports to the Technology Leader, and overall to the Principal or Principal’s delegate. Part‑time (approx. 0.8 FTE). Hours and days to be determined.
