Overview Youth Off The Streets is a not-for-profit youth organisation that provides safety, support and opportunities for young people to build a positive future. We offer crisis accommodation and housing services, alternative high school education, alcohol and other drugs counselling, youth justice support, life skills and employment programs, cultural support and community engagement, among other services. We focus on early interventions that empower young people and strengthen communities. Not all children and young people thrive in mainstream schools. Our registered and accredited independent high schools offer a flexible alternative for students in Years 9–12. We operate six independent high schools that are registered and accredited with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). Youth Off The Streets is also a member of the Association of Independent Schools of NSW (AISNSW). About the role Be part of something meaningful from the ground up. Youth Off The Streets is opening a new Special Assistance School in Maitland in 2026, and we are recruiting three passionate and qualified teachers to help shape a safe, inclusive, and trauma-informed learning environment for students in Years 9–12. We are looking for educators with experience teaching Stage 5 or Stage 6 in one or more of the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, PDHPE, Geography, or History . Experience, Skills and Abilities Ability to work with young people who have been marginalised in previous schools An understanding of the principles that underpin a child safe organisation including mandatory child protection procedures Demonstrated capacity to respect and work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people of diverse cultural backgrounds Additional experience in outdoor recreation, performing arts, creative arts, sport, fitness or other extra curricula activities are desirable qualities Requirements Accredited four-year undergraduate teaching degree (e.g., Bachelor of Education – Secondary) A bachelor degree (such as a Bachelor of Arts or Science) coupled with an accredited graduate entry teaching degree such as a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) or Master of Teaching (Secondary) Current registration with NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Ability to deliver Stage 5 or Stage 6 subjects, including planning, assessment, and reporting aligned with NESA standards Valid Working with Children Check National Criminal History Check Full Australian working rights What we can offer you A supportive team environment Training and professional development EAP for yourself and your family Salary packaging up to $15,900 Self Care Leave To Apply Please ensure you enclose a copy of your resume with your contact details and cover letter addressing the essential criteria (2 pages maximum).
