Where you'll be working Department: Aboriginal Mental Health Drug & Alcohol Service. Work location: Flexible to sites across NSLHD - Applications from candidates within Northern Beaches are highly encouraged. What You'll Be Doing Aboriginal Mental Health Workforce Program goals are to improve the mental health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in NSW by enhancing access to and ensuring mental health services are culturally sensitive and responsive. The training program was established to build a highly skilled and professional Aboriginal Mental Health workforce and provide opportunities to undertake placements and learning in arrangements of Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol services across NSLHD that included being paid while you study and train towards a degree in Mental Health and a rewarding career in the field of Mental Health. This traineeship position is part of the NSW Ministry of Health Aboriginal Mental Health workforce program which aims to support participants as they complete a Charles Sturt University degree: Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health) through the Djirruwang program, while paying trainees to work under supervision in NSW local health facilities. On completion of the program, opportunities will be provided to the participant to continue as a graduated Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician and facilitate ongoing access to mental health service with the local Aboriginal community. Candidates Will Need To Meet The Following Criteria This is an identified Aboriginal Position. Applicants must be a person of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent. An applicant’s race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14 of the Antidiscrimination Act 1977 NSW. Aboriginal applicants must demonstrate Aboriginality. Willingness and commitment to learning and self development, including completion of the Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health) course at Charles Sturt University over the consecutive years. Ability to travel for training and to attend Charles Sturt University residential teaching blocks and placements. Must hold current driver's licence. Need more information?
