Structural Engineer

As VanHomes transitions into modular home manufacturing, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of modular framing systems, BCA‑compliant structural solutions, and engineering standards that guide the next phase of the business. The role is ideal for an early‑career engineer seeking hands‑on drafting exposure, multidisciplinary development (mechanical and structural), and meaningful long‑term growth within an innovative, family‑focused business. What you’ll be doing Produce accurate 2D and 3D mechanical and structural design drawings for relocatable homes and future modular home designs, using SolidWorks. Generate concept models, detail drawings, shop drawings, and layouts based on engineering direction and design requirements. Assist with modelling structural frameworks, load paths, material specifications, and component interfaces. Support the development of engineering details and standards for modular construction. Contribute technical input to design optimisation, material use, and manufacturability. Apply foundational knowledge of the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and National Construction Code (NCC) to ensure drafting outputs meet relevant requirements. Assist in reviewing designs for compliance with structural, fire safety, accessibility, and construction standards (relevant to role scope). Contribute to internal compliance processes, engineering documentation, and design development. Communicate and collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders, including management, fabrication and assembly staff, offering technical clarifications as needed and manufacturing accuracy. Stay updated with industry design technologies, CAD advancements, and NCC/BCA changes. What we’re looking for Degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline. Up to 4 years’ experience in structural, civil or mechanical engineering. Chartered Structural Engineer Certification (or willingness plus eligible to obtain one). Strong CAD proficiency (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit, or equivalent). Solid knowledge of 3D modelling and assembly modelling workflows. Foundational understanding of the Building Code of Australia (BCA). Ability to produce accurate technical drawings with high attention to detail. Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills. Good communication skills and ability to collaborate in a team environment. Highly organised and detail‑oriented. Proactive, with a willingness to learn and grow as the company expands into modular construction. Willingness to learn and implement mechanical concepts such as chassis design, ADR compliance.
