2 days ago Be among the first 25 applicants Opportunity We are seeking a highly experienced Payroll Governance Manager to lead governance, compliance, and risk management across our national payroll function. This pivotal strategic role is responsible for ensuring payroll integrity, strengthening internal controls, and driving continuous improvement in a complex, high‑volume environment. You will shape our payroll governance framework, support system optimisation, and embed best practice across standards, compliance, and reporting. What You Will Bring You are an accomplished payroll governance professional with deep technical expertise and a proven ability to influence across a large organisation. You have a strong grasp of Australian legislation, industrial instruments, and payroll systems, combined with the leadership capability to guide teams through complexity and change. Your strengths include analytical thinking, risk management, process improvement, and a commitment to accuracy and compliance. You will bring: At least 10 years in payroll, including 5+ years managing governance and compliance functions in a complex, high‑volume environment. Experience with NES, Fair Work Act, taxation requirements, labour laws, and award/EA interpretation. Experience leading automation, optimisation, and system enhancement projects. Ability to identify emerging risks, solve complex problems, and implement preventative controls. Empathetic, supportive, and capable of building a high‑performance culture focused on learning and continuous improvement. Key Accountabilities Oversee governance frameworks, policies and internal controls to ensure compliance with Australian payroll legislation and organisational standards. Lead and mentor a team of Governance Analysts and Workstream Leads spanning systems/configuration, statutory compliance and project delivery. Proactively identify compliance risks, manage audit schedules and implement risk‑mitigation strategies. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance payroll processes, systems and reporting capabilities. Collaborate closely with key stakeholders including Industrial Relations, Tax, Audit, HR and operational leaders to address compliance issues and maintain payroll integrity. Lead the development of training programmes and contribute to building a culture of capability, consistency and excellence within the payroll team. Ensure clear documentation, regular monitoring and strong governance standards across all payroll activities. Desirable Relevant tertiary qualifications in business, finance, HR or a related discipline. Experience with large ERP/payroll systems (e.g. Workday, SAP, Chris21). Exposure to major system implementations or large‑scale transformational projects. Strong influencing and stakeholder engagement skills across corporate and operational teams. Compensation A$150,000.00 – A$180,000.00 per annum (salary range). Potential for higher remuneration based on experience.
