O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat – Lamington QLD A cafe manager oversees all aspects of daily operations, ensuring excellent customer service, managing staff, and maintaining profitability . This multifaceted role requires a mix of leadership, business acumen, and hands‑on hospitality skills. Key Responsibilities Staff Management: Recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising staff (baristas, kitchen, and waiting staff); creating work schedules and rosters; managing performance and providing feedback; and fostering a positive and productive work environment. Customer Service: Ensuring a high standard of customer satisfaction, building customer relationships, handling inquiries, and resolving complaints in a professional manner. Operations & Compliance: Overseeing daily opening and closing procedures; maintaining high standards of cleanliness, organization, and safety; and ensuring compliance with all health, hygiene, and safety regulations. Inventory & Supplier Management: Monitoring inventory levels, placing orders for supplies (coffee beans, food, etc.), coordinating with vendors, and minimizing waste. Financial Management: Monitoring budgets, tracking daily/weekly/monthly revenue and expenses, handling cash and bank deposits, and identifying ways to improve profitability and control costs. Menu & Marketing: Planning and updating menu items based on customer preferences and seasonality; implementing marketing and promotional strategies to attract and retain customers. Equipment Maintenance: Ensuring all cafe equipment (espresso machines, ovens, etc.) is properly maintained and functioning. Required Skills and Qualifications Experience: Proven experience in the food service or hospitality industry, often with previous supervisory or management experience. Leadership: Strong leadership and team management abilities, with the capacity to motivate and guide staff effectively. Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with staff, customers, and suppliers. Problem‑Solving: Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to remain calm and make quick decisions in a fast‑paced or high‑pressure environment. Business Acumen: Knowledge of financial management, including budgeting, cost control, and using Point‑of‑Sale (POS) systems. Food Knowledge: A comprehensive understanding of food safety regulations and, ideally, knowledge of coffee brewing techniques and industry trends.
