Knox Grammar School is an independent, multi-campus Kindergarten to Year 12 day and boarding school for boys, located at Wahroonga on Sydney’s North Shore. In addition to the single-sex campuses, Knox also operates Wahroonga Preparatory School, a co-educational campus for students Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6. ABOUT THE ROLE The Director of Teaching and Learning (DOTL) will be a motivated and passionate educator with a commitment to enhancing teaching practice across the Senior School. The DOTL is a highly experienced leader, with subject matter expertise that can be applied to identify learning needs and develop peer capability at Knox Grammar School. The DOTL will encourage, develop, and analyse the teaching skills of staff from multiple departments, while aligning the teaching and learning goals to improved teacher instructional capacity and student outcomes. The role will work closely with Heads of Departments and staff to foster evidence based practices that align with the strategic intentions of the school and support the academic progress of students within the Knox Total Fitness Model. RESPONSIBILITIES; Instructional Coaching Facilitate coaching cycles with cross-curricular and departmental teams, focusing on targeted pedagogical strategies. Conduct short, focused classroom visits to observe practice and provide feedback. Support staff in setting and reviewing individual and team-based teaching goals. Film and review classroom practice with staff to promote reflective dialogue and improvement. Analyse and report on pedagogical gains and shifts in practice over each cycle. Collaboration and Strategic Alignment Meet regularly with the Head of Instruction and Professional Growth to discuss coaching focus, team feedback, and emerging pedagogical needs. Contribute to the strategic development of professional learning across the school. Collaborate with other DOTL coaches to ensure consistency and shared learning across departments. Professional Development and Leadership Present at staff professional development days where required and contribute to whole-school learning initiatives. Model exemplary teaching practice and foster a culture of professional curiosity and growth. Provide collaborative and subject matter expert input into the development of the Senior School Academic Curriculum, through bringing recommendations and proposals relating to pedagogical practice and teacher professional development. Work with HODs to develop individual and collective leadership capacities through effective mentoring, coaching and evidence based professional growth initiatives. Projects Assume responsibility for at least one deliverable project in the school that could include: Knox Reads and Read Theory, Induction, practicum students and Accreditation. KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Demonstrated excellence in classroom teaching and a deep understanding of effective pedagogy. Experience in coaching, mentoring, or leading professional learning. Strong familiarity with the Knox Teaching and Learning Framework. Ability to build trust, foster collaboration, and support reflective practice. Strong communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Profound subject matter expertise in one or more subject areas. Openness to ongoing personal and professional development thorough professional courses, professional networking, and personal interest.
