Lead Data Engineer – Contract We are supporting a major organisation through a significant data uplift and are looking for a Lead Data Engineer to take ownership of highly strategic streams of work. This senior technical role suits someone who enjoys solving complex problems, guiding engineers, and shaping the direction of a large scale data platform. Base Pay Range A$90.00/hr - A$125.00/hr Contract Details Initial twelve‑month contract with a strong multi‑year program of work. What you will be doing Leading the design and optimisation of large‑scale data pipelines and platforms Taking full ownership of programs of work from concept to delivery Making clear technical and architectural decisions that lift platform performance Mentoring and guiding a team of engineers and embedding best practice Strengthening data governance, data quality and data architecture Using automation, AI and Python to improve efficiency and accelerate delivery Working closely with senior stakeholders across both business and technology What you bring Deep hands‑on experience across Spark, Hive, Presto and modern data storage formats Strong Spark SQL skills with proven experience in tuning and optimisation ETL experience using Talend, DataStage or Informatica Solid cloud experience across AWS and GCP Competent with Airflow for orchestration Strong understanding of data architecture and modelling Ability to influence and bring clarity in complex environments Why this role stands out This is a technically impactful role where your decisions will shape the future of an enterprise‑scale data platform.
