Laboratory Technician, Anatomical Pathology $59,207.20 - $85,545.20 Pro-Rata + Super Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Alfred Health supports the local community while addressing complex state-wide needs, including trauma, organ transplantation and HIV/AIDS diagnostics. APS conducts all pathology testing for multiple hospitals, offering a comprehensive range of services through five specialized units: Anatomical Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology, and Human Molecular Pathology. APS is committed to education and professional development, providing excellent learning opportunities for students and clinicians. Alfred Health and Monash Health have established a partnership and are delivering pathology services at Western Health (WH), which includes collection centres, branch laboratories at New Footscray Hospital and Sunshine Hospital and point-of-care services. We are working in partnership to ensure we meet future demands and continue to provide high quality pathology services for our patients and the community across both health services. Position Summary The role of the medical laboratory technician is to rotate through various sections of the Unit, working as part of a laboratory team in the processing of histology and cytology specimens. The primary responsibilities of this role are: Laboratory duties including specimen preparation, assisting at specimen cut-up, tissue processing, tissue embedding, microtomy and staining Reagent preparation including QC checks and record keeping, maintaining reagent inventory and laboratory supplies Inward goods receiving, maintaining stocks of supplies and consumables Laboratory equipment maintenance, service and calibration Filing of microscope slides, paraffin blocks and patient related records General laboratory duties including cleaning and decontamination of laboratory equipment, instruments, glassware and work surfaces Participation in rotating rosters Qualifications Required Minimum of Diploma of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory), Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Laboratory Technology or Laboratory Operations, or equivalent Experience and Skills Required Previous experience in a pathology laboratory.
