Alfred Health supports the local community while addressing complex state-wide needs, including trauma, organ transplantation and HIV/AIDS diagnostics. APS conducts all pathology testing for multiple hospitals, offering a comprehensive range of services through five specialised units: Anatomical Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology, and Human Molecular Pathology. Position Summary The role of the medical laboratory technician is to rotate through various sections of the Unit, working as part of a laboratory team in the processing of histology and cytology specimens. The primary responsibilities of this role are: Specimen reception duties including case registration, specimen distribution, organising send‑away tests Laboratory duties including specimen preparation, assisting at specimen cut‑up, tissue processing, tissue embedding, microtomy and staining Reagent preparation including QC checks and record keeping, maintaining reagent inventory and laboratory supplies Inward goods receiving, maintaining stocks of supplies and consumables Laboratory equipment maintenance, service and calibration Filing of microscope slides, paraffin blocks and patient related records General laboratory duties including cleaning and decontamination of laboratory equipment, instruments, glassware and work surfaces Participation in rotating rosters About You Qualifications Required: Minimum of Diploma of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory), Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Laboratory Technology or Laboratory Operations, or equivalent Experience And Skills Required Previous experience in a pathology laboratory.
