Grounds Maintenance & Education Support Role Department of Education Victoria – Bass VIC 3d ago , from Department of Education & Training Victoria Bass Valley Primary School is located on the growing Bass Coast along the water line in Bunurong Country. Students attend from neighbouring coastal towns including Corinella, Coronet Bay, Pioneer Bay, Grantville, and other regional towns including the Gurdies, Kernot, Almurta and Woodleigh. In 2026, BVPS will have an enrolment of approximately 200 students, which is stable from previous years. In 2026, the grade structure will be organised around 10 classrooms (homerooms) with specialist subjects including STEM, Physical Education, Swimming and The Arts. The school is well resourced and our facilities include modern and well‑appointed learning areas, interactive whiteboards in every classroom, a music room, art room, heated swimming pool, gymnasium, cooking centre, vegetable gardens, orchard, library, breakfast club and environmental wetlands area. The school is serviced by an extensive bus network. Teachers work collaboratively in teams to plan, deliver and assess the Victorian Curriculum. Students engage in daily literacy lessons which includes a synthetic phonics program and numeracy lessons that follow explicit instruction which leads students into practical application. Students participate in a well‑rounded curriculum that includes twice‑weekly Physical Education, AUSLAN, Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR), The Arts, and STEM, with a focus on food technology. Selection Criteria SC1: Demonstrated experience in building and grounds maintenance, repair, and gardening SC2: A strong work ethic, eye for detail and a sense of pride in efficiently completing work to a high standard as well as the ability to work independently and to follow instructions SC3: Sound understanding of OHS standards and maintenance procedures in a school setting. SC4: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate advice and support effectively with staff, students, and contractors in respect to the work area. SC5: Demonstrated capacity to provide advice and support to management and other school staff in respect to the work area. SC6: Demonstrated capacity to work as an Education Support Officer supporting student learning in a school setting. Role Bass Valley Primary School is seeking a reliable, proactive and hands‑on gardener to maintain the presentation and functionality of our school's outdoor areas and facilities. The ideal candidate is someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys working outdoors, and can work both independently and collaboratively. The successful candidate will carry out a wide range of gardening, groundskeeping, and general outdoor maintenance duties, ensuring our school environment remains clean, safe, and inviting for students, staff, and the wider school community. Requirements Previous experience in a similar gardening or groundskeeping role (preferred) Sound gardening knowledge and ability, including the safe use and operation of relevant equipment and tools A genuine passion for outdoor work and maintaining green spaces Strong sense of responsibility and pride in maintaining the school's outdoor environment Ability to work independently and as part of a team Reliability, good time management, and a proactive attitude Responsibilities Daily Duties: Sweeping, blowing, or vacuuming of paths and outdoor areas Picking up rubbish and leaves to keep yards neat and tidy Regular Tasks: Mowing lawns and trimming edges Pruning trees, shrubs, and hedges Weeding and maintaining garden beds and landscaped areas Maintaining and monitoring irrigation systems Maintaining synthetic turf areas Basic repairs to outdoor surfaces, structures, and equipment Identifying and addressing (where possible) any hazards around the grounds Education Support Component: Support education staff in routine tasks, communication, and basic student care as outlined in the Education Support Tasks section. Education Support Tasks Provides routine support for teachers including assisting with planning of student routines Supports communication between teachers and parents Communicates with teachers on routine matters related to students and/or other responsibilities Provides basic physical care and wellbeing support for students such as toileting, meals, and lifting Communicates with students to support comprehension of basic tasks and information Addresses immediate behavioural presentations relating to specific students within a classroom setting aligned to school policy and procedure Provides basic support and supervision for individuals or groups of up to 4 students within a classroom setting Supports teachers in the coordination of educational programs independently or under minimal supervision, including rostering and organising the work of a team of aides, providing routine co‑ordination, guidance, and support to other student support staff, liaising with external providers of support services about clearly defined support needs and resources, and assisting teachers with the communication of student outcomes and educational programs Provides medical intervention support to a student/s, under specific conditions, with appropriate training and guidance Provides specialised communication support for students and teachers in areas such as AUSLAN and braille Who May Apply Individuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfil the specific requirements of the position.
