Graduate Classroom Teacher - English and Humanities Government schools – Melbourne Northern Suburbs VIC Sunbury Downs College is a vibrant Year 7 to 12 co‑educational secondary college situated in the semi‑rural of Sunbury. It has approximately 800 students and offers a rich educational experience with a strong emphasis on core subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Physical Education, complemented by Arts/Technology, Performing Arts, Health and Languages (Italian). The college provides Accelerated Curriculum and Enrichment (ACE) and Scholars programmes and is an accredited International Student Program provider. The college offers inclusive activities and programmes for Years 7‑12, including Maths Club, Drama Club, Choir, Sports, camps and excursions. A well‑established Student Voice programme and a highly acclaimed Musical Production foster responsibility and teamwork. Selection Criteria – Graduates SC1: Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the capacity to incorporate the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills; demonstrated capacity to respond to student learning needs. SC2: Demonstrated capacity to implement high‑impact teaching strategies, guided by how students learn, and evaluate the impact of learning and teaching programmes on student learning growth. SC3: Demonstrated capacity to monitor and assess student learning; use data to inform teaching practice and provide feedback to students and parents. SC4: Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills; establish and maintain collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues and the broader school community. SC5: Demonstrated behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values; reflect upon practice and engage in professional learning to continually improve teaching quality. Program Benefits – Graduates The primary focus of Range 1 classroom teachers is to further develop skills and competencies with structured support, mentoring and guidance from senior teachers. Teachers plan, prepare and deliver programmes to achieve specific student outcomes, participate in induction and professional learning, and may supervise and train student teachers. Responsibilities – Graduates Planning and implementing a range of teaching programmes or courses of study. Teaching a curriculum area or a general curriculum to a year level. Monitoring, evaluating and reporting student progress in key learning areas. Implementing strategies to achieve targets related to student learning outcomes. Maintaining records of class attendance and student progress. Implementing effective student management consistent with the school charter. Working with a mentor to participate in professional development planning, implementation and reflection, developing a professional portfolio. Additional responsibilities may include: Supervising a range of student activities, including support and welfare programmes. Contributing to co‑curricular programmes. Who May Apply – Graduates Completed course requirements and graduated in the last four years. Not currently employed as a teacher by the Department at the time the advertised position commences. Registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching. Qualification Requirements Provisional or full registration approved by the Victorian Institute of Teaching. If the person completed an Australian postgraduate level initial teaching programme or course of study on or after 1 January 2024, they must demonstrate satisfactory completion of a postgraduate accredited initial teacher education programme. If graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programme after 1 July 2016, they must demonstrate that the LANTITE requirement was satisfied.
