Principal Legal Officer – Queensland Treasury Join Queensland Treasury’s Legal Services as a Principal Legal Officer (PO6). We are seeking a lawyer with strong contracts and finance law expertise to provide expert legal advice on commercial agreements and complex financial transactions. Due to internal promotion, we are recruiting for two roles (one permanent and one temporary 12‑month) on a flexible full‑time basis. You will report to a Deputy General Counsel. In This Role, You Will Draft and review contracts and other documentation, such as funding/investment facilitation agreements, complex transaction documents, and Cabinet submissions. Prepare legal advice for senior lawyers to finalise, assisting Treasury business groups and senior management, and partner with clients and external stakeholders to develop practical solutions. Engage, brief, and manage external lawyers and barristers. Work in teams on allocated matters under the supervision of senior lawyers, participate in continuing legal education, and help uplift legal knowledge across Treasury. What Experience You Will Bring Strong analytical writing and drafting skills for commercial, statutory, and other documents. Ability to work with supervision to provide advice that meets business and legal requirements, manages risk, considers wider implications, and aligns with Treasury’s objectives. Capacity to work collaboratively and autonomously to ensure the team delivers on commitments. Skill in tailoring communication to understand perspectives and meet the needs of internal and external stakeholders. Commitment to personal, professional, and technical growth.
