About the role We’re hiring a Data Scientist to design and deliver advanced analytics and machine learning solutions that leverage both classical and quantum computing capabilities. Based at our UNSW Sydney office, you’ll work within the Software Engineering team and collaborate with quantum engineers, hardware specialists, and customer organisations to build data‑driven models that solve high‑impact problems. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on extracting insights from complex datasets and is curious about applying quantum‑enhanced approaches to real‑world challenges. You’ll work with internal and external teams to deliver tailored, outcome‑driven solutions across industries such as telecommunications, defence, finance, pharmaceuticals and more. Role responsibilities Design, develop, and deploy data science models for classification, prediction, and optimisation tasks. Collaborate with internal teams and external customers to define use cases and deliver fit‑for‑purpose solutions. Translate business requirements into technical problem statements and modelling strategies. Build and optimise data pipelines for large‑scale analytics and machine learning workflows. Advise customer teams on model selection, tuning, and integration with advanced computing platforms. Work closely with quantum physicists and software engineers to explore quantum‑enhanced data science techniques. Evaluate and recommend tools, frameworks, and methodologies to improve performance and scalability. Stay current with emerging trends in data science, machine learning, and quantum computing. Your experience Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field. Proven track record in developing and deploying data science models with measurable business impact. Strong understanding of statistical modelling, machine learning algorithms, and optimisation techniques. Proficiency in Python and data science libraries such as pandas, NumPy, scikit‑learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and big data technologies. Familiarity with data engineering practices and pipeline development. Ability to define clear problem statements and select appropriate modelling approaches. Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and non‑technical teams. Exposure to quantum computing concepts is desirable but not essential.
