Job Overview Permanent full‑time position commencing Term 1, 2026. The School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) is seeking a dynamic Head of Learning Area – English to lead high‑quality teaching and learning for Western Australian students with diverse needs in a blended online environment. The successful applicant will champion culturally responsive pedagogy and curriculum, foster an inclusive, safe and connected learning culture where every student feels seen, valued and supported to succeed. Strategic Priorities Building culturally responsive, cohort focused pathways and learning opportunities Embedding highly effective and inspirational teaching in every classroom Strengthening student and staff wellbeing Enhancing relational ways of working with our community and system partners Leading with shared purpose Essential Qualifications & Experience Relevant experience, qualifications and a strong understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum and WACE English syllabus requirements. Experience leading curriculum development, protecting literacy, numeracy, and EALD outcomes, and demonstrating evidence‑informed instructional practice suitable for online, blended and place‑based contexts. The Head of Learning Area will also be required to take on an appropriate teaching load. Eligibility Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or holder of a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia Valid Working With Children Check before commencing Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before starting Application Deadline Applications must be received before 4.30 pm (AWST) on Wednesday, 3 December 2025. High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes. Demonstrated professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students, e.g., Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs. Demonstrated capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.
