Official Visitor (Board Member) Role: Official Visitor (Casual) to Youth Justice centreLocation – Dubbo (Orana Youth Justice Centre)Employment type – Casual Board Member This is a targeted recruitment. This is because the Department acknowledges this lived experience contributes a perspective valuable to our work with this community. Your role The Inspector of Custodial Services (ICS) is appointed to inspect adult correctional facilities and youth justice centres, and report to Parliament on the findings of these inspections. The IC S also oversees the Official Visitor Program in correctional facilities and youth justice centres. Official Visitors work to resolve enquiries and complaints made by young people in custody and assist in monitoring the conditions and treatment of young people in custodial centres throughout New South Wales (NSW). Official Visitors are community‑based appointments made by the Minister for Youth Justice. An Official Visitor is assigned to a youth justice centre for up to four years and visits the centre once a fortnight. What You’ll Do Visit assigned centres regularly to speak with children and young people, staff, and management. Record and report on complaints, enquiries, and the general centre environment. Facilitate the resolution of issues at the local level where possible. Submit reports to the Minister, Inspector of Custodial Services, and relevant authorities. Maintain independence, objectivity, and confidentiality at all times. What We’re Looking For Orana Youth Justice Centre (Dubbo) Cultural awareness, particularly in working with Aboriginal people and people from diverse backgrounds. The ability to remain impartial and act with integrity. Basic computer literacy and access to email/internet. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Additional Information Applications are invited for appointments to centres in the above-mentioned regions across New South Wales. Suitable candidates may be added to a talent pool to fill any appointments that may become vacant over the next 18 months.
