18‑Month Contract: Database Administrator (FileMaker) We are entering the final phase of the business‑critical FileMaker program. We need a true expert—a hands‑on, autonomous "go-to" specialist—to optimise, stabilise, and maintain this platform for its next 18 months and beyond. About the Opportunity This is a senior, hands‑on role where you will take full ownership of our FileMaker database systems and server environment. You will be instrumental in ensuring the performance, security, data integrity, and operational continuity of the platform as it moves from final development into its critical maintenance phase. What You Will Be Doing (Key Responsibilities) Your expertise will span the full platform lifecycle, focusing on stability and excellence: Platform Optimisation & Architecture Design & Development: Develop, enhance, and maintain complex FileMaker solutions, layouts, scripts, and workflows to boost usability and data accuracy. Performance Tuning: Monitor and expertly tune FileMaker Server and databases, proactively identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks. Data Integrity: Manage complex relationships, value lists, and advanced calculation logic while maintaining robust data validation and indexing. Server & Security Management Server Administration: Install, configure, and maintain FileMaker Server (Windows/macOS), including managing hosting, scheduling, and server‑side operations. Security Master: Manage user accounts, privilege sets, and authentication (including Active Directory/OAuth), enforce strict data access rules, and proactively address security risks. Resilience: Design and maintain robust backup and recovery strategies, and execute regular integrity testing. Support & Leadership Act as the top‑tier escalation point for advanced FileMaker issues. Create documentation and deliver training, turning users into power‑users. Collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams and drive process improvements using data‑driven insights. About You You are a senior‑level specialist who enjoys taking ownership and delivering high‑quality, reliable outcomes. Must‑Have Technical Expertise 5+ years as a FileMaker Developer or Database Administrator. Expert knowledge across the full FileMaker ecosystem: Pro, Go, Web Direct, and Server. Proven experience delivering complex, multi‑user FileMaker solutions (v16+). Deep relational database design skills (ER modelling, normalisation). Advanced scripting and server administration experience on Windows environments. Integration Proficiency: Experience integrating FileMaker with SQL, ODBC/JDBC, cURL, or similar external data sources. Experience with privilege sets, CWP, Web Direct, and Active Directory/OAuth authentication. Exceptional troubleshooting and diagnostic skills. Ability to translate complex business needs into practical, reliable FileMaker solutions. Strong organisational skills to manage multiple development and maintenance streams simultaneously. Desirable Claris FileMaker Certified Developer (current or recent certification is highly advantageous). Experience with CWP (PHP) or modern web frameworks.
