Safe Spaces Service Safe Spaces provides a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for people experiencing psychological distress, allowing them to: Identify alternatives to presenting to the Emergency Department for low risk individuals Access support from trained mental health professionals within their community, outside a clinical setting. Role Overview Be involved in demonstrating a peer led service model for the Illawarra. Use a combination of evidence-based strategies underpinned by recovery orientated principles to provide assistance to individuals experiencing distress. Utilise a sensory modulation approach to build independence in developing and engaging in skills to build distress tolerance and support an individual’s capacity to alleviate and manage future psychosocial distress. On Offer Based in Wollongong, NSW Casual opportunity available Hours of work: Wednesday to Saturday (2pm-10pm) Paying on SCHADs Level 3 plus Super May be eligible for Salary Packaging options (up to $15,899 tax free) Stride Rewards – access to discounts from 100s of retailers (fashion, food and fitness) Supportive team environment Excellent training and career development Requirements Minimum of Cert IV in Mental Health, Community Services or other related discipline (ideally a completed Diploma or Bachelors) Experience, skills and knowledge in working with people experiencing mental illness, in immediate distress and/or experiencing suicide ideation Understanding of and ability to apply the principles of a recovery-oriented, person-centered, and strengths-based approach to service delivery Experience using mental health assessment tools with distressed clients Ability to implement and facilitate capacity building activities with participants Lived experience of suicidality Ability to demonstrate initiative and work independently Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem solving and organisational skills Networking skills to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a WWCC Must hold/be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance Current driver's licence with a good driving history and a registered, well maintained vehicle that is available to be used for the purposes of this role EEO & Diversity Stride is an inclusive workplace and we encourage applications from diverse backgrounds in order to enhance the depth of cultural diversity and insight within our workforce.
