Join to apply for the First Nations Engagement Lead role at Bupa Australia As a First Nations Engagement Lead at Bupa, you’ll work closely with the Head of First Nations Strategy to deliver key initiatives that embed cultural safety and inclusion across our organization. From shaping engagement plans to advancing our Reconciliation Action Plan, this role is central to building respectful partnerships and fostering cultural learning and meaningful engagement with First Nations peoples, communities and employees. This is a 12-month fixed term contract, ideally based in Melbourne or Sydney, with hybrid working options available. This is an identified position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Bupa considers that being Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under s 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW), s 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (QLD) and s 28 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (VIC). Responsibilities Deliver engagement, inclusion, and cultural safety initiatives across Bupa. Coordinate implementation of the Engagement Plan, Cultural & Clinical Safety Plan, and Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) actions in partnership with key stakeholders. Partner with the People & Culture and Clinical Governance teams to integrate cultural safety into HR and clinical practices. Design, deliver, and continuously improve cultural learning programs. Embed the Proper Ways approach into people processes, engagement activities, and internal communications. Support the development of the L&D Framework to ensure all employees have access to meaningful and culturally relevant learning opportunities. Lead the development and implementation of First Nations engagement strategy, influencing organizational priorities and help set the agenda for meaningful change. Provide cultural guidance and advice to leaders, teams, and project groups to ensure all initiatives reflect cultural safety and respect. Respond to queries and requests for cultural input from internal stakeholders with authenticity, respect, and care. Strengthen relationships with First Nations organizations, communities, and suppliers to advance Bupa’s Procurement & Supplier Governance Plan and community impact goals. Represent Bupa at external events, forums, and networks in a culturally respectful and professional manner. Track participation, feedback, and outcomes of cultural learning, engagement, and inclusion initiatives. Report on progress against the RAP and other key plans, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. Support internal communications and reporting that showcase achievements and highlight employee and community voices. Skills & Experience Required This is an identified position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Minimum of up to 5 years’ experience in a similar level role and or experience in employee engagement, wellbeing, HR, or community development, within a First Nations context. Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and contemporary issues. Experience leading or supporting cultural engagement, learning, or inclusion programs within large organizations. Demonstrated ability to provide culturally informed advice and influence organizational change. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage across diverse teams and communities. Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds and orientations in both the delivery of our work and our internal culture.
