The ideal candidate will possess strong people management skills and a solid technical background in Node.js, React, DevOps, and cloud infrastructure. This role requires a blend of hands-on technical expertise and the ability to manage and inspire a high-performing engineering team. You will work closely with product managers and founders / owners and senior executives within the business to drive the success of our projects and the overall growth of our engineering capabilities.Our team is building the software that will run our full business. This is an opportunity to join a greenfield engineering project and steer it from early days through to launch and successfully operate our complete business into the future. We are looking for a leader that wants to build a strong engineering team and culture as we transition from a buyer of software to a maker of software.Key Responsibilities:Team Leadership and Management:Lead and manage the engineering team (based in Brisbane and Colombo, Sri Lanka), fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.Mentor and develop team members, providing guidance and support to enhance their skills and career growth.Take the initiative to identify and implement improvements within the team.Cross-Functional Collaboration:Work closely with product managers, stakeholders, and other departmental leads to align engineering efforts with business objectives.Collaborate with Product for joint prioritization across roadmaps, ensuring technical and business goals are met.Demonstrate accountability in delivering on commitments and achieving shared goals.Represent Engineering point of view with management and product to jointly create plans that build business value, securely.Technical Expertise:Demonstrate competence in Node.js and React, providing technical guidance and code reviews.Understand and advise on software architecture, ensuring robust and scalable solutionsBe knowledgeable in DevOps practices, with hands-on experience in AWS or GCP environments.Competent with infrastructure management, including environment management, release management, and infrastructure security.Experience in Modern Software Development PracticesAdvocate and implement appropriate methodologies within the team.Run appropriate solution delivery ceremonies ensuring smooth and efficient workflows and strong collaboration with the product team.Process Improvement:Identify, document, and implement engineering processes to improve the team’s quality of work and output.Establish and sustain overarching technical architecture and strategies, including backups, recoveries, and rollbacks.Communication and Problem Solving:Exhibit excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to articulate technical considerations to non-technical personnel.Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, addressing challenges effectively.Do what you say by clearly communicating technical strategies and following through on plans.Hands-On Contribution:Dive in and perform hands-on development work alongside the team, leading by example.Engage in solution architecture, ensuring alignment with business goals and technical feasibility.Show up consistently, contributing to both strategic and operational tasks.Qualifications:Proven experience in managing engineering teams and working cross-functionally with product and stakeholders.Strong technical background with hands-on experience in Node.js, React, DevOps, AWS or GCP.Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences.Experience in infrastructure management and security.Knowledge or experience as a solution architect is preferred.Ability to think critically and solve complex problems effectively.How to Apply:If you are passionate about leading engineers and driving technical excellence, we would love to hear from you.
