Assistant Gardener - Handyperson Department of Education, Western Australia Overview We are establishing a pool of Assistant Gardener – Handyperson for permanent and fixed‑term, full‑time and part‑time positions that may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period. Responsibilities Work under the guidance of the Senior Gardener / Handyperson as part of a team responsible for maintaining, improving, and presenting our College grounds and gardens in an attractive, engaging, clean, safe, and tidy condition. Oversee the upkeep of turf areas, garden beds, shrubs, trees, soft landscapes, specialty areas such as Peace Park, kitchen garden, and inclusive learning play/grow‑learn area. Maintain hard landscaping features (courts, paving), mark sports areas, and conduct minor repairs in line with departmental policies. Keep gardening facilities, equipment, tools, and machinery clean and serviceable; report faults promptly and adhere to safe work practices. Perform general maintenance including minor repairs, painting, and assist staff with moving furniture. Collaborate with the Manager of Corporate Services to develop safe work procedures and conduct risk assessments as needed. Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legislation, manage hazardous substances, and maintain records according to safety guidelines. Eligibility & Qualifications Background in gardening, landscaping, horticulture, or general maintenance. Valid Working With Children Check. Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number before commencing. Australian or New Zealand citizenship, permanent residency, or a valid visa with work rights for the term of appointment.
