Protective Service Officer – Perth

Overview The AFP is expanding in Western Australia, with new opportunities available in Perth. If you are motivated to escape the mundane and do something different, the AFP has a role for you. The AFP's Western Command has its headquarters based in Perth and is made up of sworn, specialist and support staff. Protective Service Officers deliver enhanced protection at Defence sites and Perth Airport, as well as at Submarine Rotational Force West, HMAS Stirling, and within the Dignitary Protection Unit to protect foreign consulates, internationally protected persons, Australian high officer holders and other Commonwealth interests. As a Protective Service Officer (PSO), you will detect, deter and disrupt any criminal activity and respond to criminal and national security threats. You'll use specialist capabilities and data to keep people and places safe. Key Responsibilities Provide highly visible uniformed security at Defence sites and Perth Airport. Plan and deliver operational activities for special events and protests. Execute first‑response capabilities, including enhanced counter‑terrorism first response (CTFR). Lead intelligence‑led, risk‑based targeted activities. Engage stakeholders and build partnerships. Deliver enhanced protection at Submarine Rotational Force West, HMAS Stirling. Operate within the Dignitary Protection Unit to protect foreign consulates, internationally protected persons, Australian high officer holders and other Commonwealth interests. Eligibility & Requirements All applicants must meet the following minimum entry standards at the time of application: Australian citizenship. Minimum age 18 years. Education: Hold a Year 10 Certificate plus 2 years of work experience, or hold a Year 10 Certificate plus a nationally recognised vocational education, qualification Certificate III level or higher, or hold a Year 12 Certificate, or hold a vocational education qualification / tertiary qualification Diploma level or higher. Hold a valid Australian driver’s licence (P Plates accepted; learner’s licence applicants must have a provisional licence). Can swim 100 m freestyle, hold current First‑Aid and CPR certifications. Training & Certification There is no need to commit to years of study or incur HECS debt. You will get paid to train for 15 weeks, including accommodation and meals. Upon successful completion of the course at AFP College in Canberra, you will be awarded a Certificate IV in Protective Services. Salary & Compensation $78, per annum This includes a base salary plus a 22% composite and Use of Force (UoF) allowance. Plus overtime and penalties. 15.4% superannuation, including during all periods of maternity leave. Salaries are current as of 1 December and increased incrementally on 9 December. Annual UoF allowance depends on maintaining a UoF certification. Benefits 6 weeks (30 days) paid annual leave per year. 4 mandatory rest days per year. 18 days paid personal leave per year. Generous superannuation of 15.4%. 18 weeks paid maternity leave + an additional 36 weeks of unpaid maternity leave. Paid training at AFP College plus accommodation & meals (base salary $62,263 during training).
