An opportunity to be part of the Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC) team at Hornsby Ku‑ring‑gai Mental Health Service located at Hornsby Ku‑ring‑gai Hospital is available. Position Classification : Staff SpecialistEmployment Type : Permanent Part TimeHours Per Week : Up to 20 About the Role Hornsby Ku‑ring‑gai Mental Health Service provides a comprehensive range of community and inpatient mental health services for consumers presenting with psychiatric emergencies in the Hornsby‑Ku‑ring‑gai catchment area. This position is co‑located within the Emergency Department and requires close liaison and consultation with the Emergency Department of Hornsby Hospital. Core Responsibilities Provide leadership and oversight of the care of consumers admitted to PECC, including consumers age 14 and above in collaboration with CYMHS. Oversee PECC clinical governance, clinical quality and safety, and clinical key performance indicators. Implement and evaluate PECC clinical service plans and models of care, providing effective leadership and liaison with colleagues in the Emergency Department to ensure effective mental health assessment and care for all ED presentations. Ensure strategic focus within ED to minimise negative outcomes in key areas such as AWOL, re‑presentations to ED and ensure comprehensive care planning for complex mental health needs. Purpose of the Position Provide clinical management and treatment of patients in a Northern Sydney Local Health District facility within the scope of practice granted by the NSW Health Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee. Contribute to teaching, training, research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the district. Selection Criteria MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Must hold Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or be eligible for registration as a Specialist Psychiatrist. Applicants expecting to be awarded their FRANZCP within 3 months may be considered. Demonstrated experience in working as a senior clinician in acute psychiatry, general hospital psychiatry and community‑based and inpatient settings, including experience with the NSW Mental Health Act 2007. Demonstrated ability to work as a leader of a multidisciplinary team across hospital and community settings, with proven high performance and experience in management and leadership, and proven collaboration with the Emergency Department. Understanding of and commitment to the National, State and Local Health District strategic directions, including a performance‑based organisation. Experience liaising with GPs, consumers and carers and demonstrated understanding of recovery and care coordination models. Experience teaching psychiatry to students and trainees, and supervising trainees in psychiatry. Demonstrated interest in improvement of clinical governance of mental health services, including quality improvement methodologies, and a commitment to fostering this interest among medical staff and clinicians.
