About YPN The Youth Pride Network (YPN) is the peak body for LGBTIQA+ young people in Western Australia. YPN's goal is to create Western Australia in which all LGBTIQA+ young people are fully included, accepted, and celebrated by their community. The work of YPN is directed by a committee consisting of 16 LGBTIQA+ young people and represents a general membership of over 300 young people. YPN is auspiced by the Youth Affairs Council of Western Australia and funded by the Department of Communities. YPN undertakes work in three key areas : Policy advice and analysis to guide government decision-making in relation to LGBTIQA+ wellbeing Education to improve services and responses for LGBTIQA+ young people Community awareness raising and connection building activities for LGBTIQA+ young people About YACWA The Youth Affairs Council of Western Australia (YACWA) auspices the YPN and is the peak non-government youth organisation in Western Australia. YACWA represents the interests and needs of young people and the youth sector to key decision-makers in our goal to address the exclusion of young people in a rapidly changing society. YACWA provides support to the YPN as part of its auspice arrangement. This includes employing YPN staff, managing finances, providing office space and human resources support. Some of YPN's work may be delivered in partnership with YACWA. About the Role The Community Engagement Officer plays a vital role in advancing the mission of the Youth Pride Network (YPN) by supporting the aspirations of the YPN Committee and assisting the YPN Manager to deliver key project outcomes. This role focuses on amplifying the voices of LGBTIQA+ young people, strengthening their capacity for self-advocacy, and building community connections that improve wellbeing and resilience. The Community Engagement Officer will help ensure that YPN's activities are youth-led, inclusive, and reflective of the diversity of experiences among LGBTIQA+ young people across Western Australia. Through events, outreach, communications and partnerships, this position will help create spaces where LGBTIQA+ young people feel seen, supported and empowered to influence change. KEY TASKS 1. Project and Grant Delivery Support the delivery of YPN's commitments under current funding arrangements. Assist in monitoring project outcomes, maintaining documentation, and contributing to reports as required. 2. Youth Engagement and Membership Find creative and inclusive ways to engage with and grow YPN's membership of LGBTIQA+ young people across Western Australia. Engage directly with diverse LGBTIQA+ young people, including through regional outreach and events. Use the lived experience of young people to advocate for their rights, inclusion, and wellbeing. 3. Committee Support Support the YPN Committee to achieve its goals, including: Organising and coordinating committee meetings; Assisting with tasks between meetings that support project delivery; Providing administrative support as required. 4. Events and Community Outreach Plan and deliver major YPN events, including Inclusive Eid, Queer Prom and Queer D&D. Represent YPN at community events, expos and information stalls to promote engagement and visibility. Build and maintain relationships with youth and community organisations to strengthen collaboration and inclusion. 5. Communications and Digital Engagement Develop and publish engaging social media content that amplifies youth voices and promotes YPN initiatives. Maintain and promote the Queer And? Podcast. Maintain and update the YPN website, including key resources and the Safe Space Map. Assist with media and communications activities, ensuring messages reflect YPN's values and youth-led approach. SELECTION CRITERIA Strong understanding of LGBTIQA+ issues, identities and advocacy. Experience or demonstrated ability to engage effectively with LGBTIQA+ young people from diverse backgrounds, with awareness of intersectionality. Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks independently. Experience in event planning, community engagement or outreach activities. Ability to create and manage social media and website content to enhance organisational visibility, reach and engagement across diverse audiences. Graphic design and / or web design skills. Commitment to youth participation, co-design, inclusion and trauma-informed practice. Demonstrated experience working with intersectional identities including culturally and linguistically diverse young people, Aboriginal young people and young people of faith will be highly regarded. Demonstrated ability to manage small projects. Experience with workshop facilitation, consultation and / or training. Experience engaging with regional or remote communities. Experience with youth development / YAGs / committee governance.
