Downer is seeking a driven and experienced Senior Safety Advisor to play a key role in keeping Melbourne's CityLink road network safe and compliant. This dynamic role offers a diverse range of responsibilities and presents an excellent opportunity for a passionate safety professional to contribute to one of Melbourne's iconic assets. This role is a chance to lead, influence, and shape safety culture in a hands‑on role where every day presents new challenges and opportunities. You'll be at the forefront of coaching, mentoring, and guiding internal and external stakeholders, ensuring ongoing compliance with statutory obligations, proactively mitigating risks, and leading incident investigations. This role balances both strategic safety leadership and practical on-the-ground involvement. If you have a strong civil or road safety background, exceptional leadership qualities, and a passion for making a difference, we want to hear from you About You Exposure in the Road or Civil Maintenance and Mechanical or Electrical sectors will be highly regarded as will the ability to influence and engage a wide range of stakeholders, maintaining strong relationships with both operational and management personnel to achieve best zero‑harm outcomes. Requirements Diploma or higher in Work Health and Safety. Proven experience in a Safety role in the road, civil construction or industrial industries. ICAM Lead Investigation Certificate (desirable). Quality/Safety Lead Internal Auditor (desirable). Demonstrate knowledge and ability to evaluate and implement safety policies and procedures and ensure compliance. Demonstrated ability to develop safety improvement plans to drive and promote proactive safety awareness programs. Ability to think strategically, considering both corporate and local objectives/drivers. Ability to conduct audits; investigations of safety issues and assist in developing improvement plans based on findings. Prior experience with managing return to work programs in consultation with line management; liaison with Injury Management Team Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to influence at various business levels.
