Employment Details Employment Type: Temporary Full Time Remuneration: – Hours Per Week: 38 Requisition ID: CAM27482 Applications Close: 20, November 2025 Where you'll be working Canterbury Hospital is a 215‑bed metropolitan acute general hospital providing services in Emergency Medicine, General Surgery and Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Aged Care, Rehabilitation and Palliative Care. It serves a local population of 220,000 people, of which 48% were born overseas and 47% report Chinese, Lebanese or Greek ancestry. Nearly 67% do not speak English at home, with predominant languages including Arabic, Greek, Mandarin, Bengali, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Urdu, Italian, Indonesian, Korean and Nepali. What You'll Be Doing The Unaccredited Trainee will undertake dedicated terms in Cardiology and General Medicine and will provide effective clinical management of inpatients and outpatients of Canterbury Hospital under the supervision of specialist consultants. During Cardiology terms, the trainee will be exposed to ECHO reporting and interpretation, stress testing, and management of acute and chronic cardiac issues such as NSTEACS, acute arrhythmias and heart failure – and will participate in Cardiology research and administer the Canterbury Hospital heart failure database. During General Medicine terms, the trainee will develop competency in managing a broad range of acute medical conditions including respiratory, endocrine, renal, neurological and other disorders. Responsibilities include patient assessment, treatment decisions, performing procedures, maintaining accurate medical records, organising and interpreting investigations, and communicating effectively with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams. Qualifications MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Completion of at least five postgraduate years and demonstrated experience in Cardiology and/or General Medicine. Demonstrated commitment to a career in Cardiology/General Medicine – including education, excellent theoretical knowledge and clinical judgement, research and teaching, with a commitment to continuous quality improvement. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment, utilising excellent clinical skills and judgement. A professional attitude and flexibility in work roles with a preparedness for after‑hours overtime and on‑call rosters. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary clinical team – diligence, punctuality, organisation, record keeping, time management, problem solving skills, teamwork. Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with patients, their families, and medical and non‑medical colleagues. Need more information?
