Full-time | Defence, Aerospace, Advanced Manufacturing Reports to: Chief Growth Officer Extel Technologies Extel Technologies is expanding and we’re building a high-performance Growth Team to support major Defence, aerospace and advanced technology programs in 2026 and beyond. We’re looking for a BDE who is hungry, driven and ready to fuel the front end of Extel’s business development engine. With a world-class advanced manufacturing facility in Melbourne and a growing national presence, Extel provides: Product Development (PCB and complete product design and engineering, embedded systems, prototyping). Advanced Electronics Manufacturing (complex PCB and complete product assembly, testing, certification). Lifecycle Management (sustainment, obsolescence, supply chain continuity). We partner with primes, innovators and scale-ups who build technology that cannot fail . The Role This position is based in Extel’s Sydney CBD Growth Office on George Street and sits at the centre of our national business development efforts. Working directly with the Chief Growth Officer, you will play a pivotal role in expanding Extel’s presence across cutting-edge Defence, aerospace, autonomous systems, robotics, communications and advanced technology sectors. You will be responsible for identifying new opportunities, opening new customer pathways, securing high-value meetings, and building a strong, forward-looking pipeline that supports Extel’s strategic growth priorities. This is a strategic, customer-facing role with direct exposure to executive-level business development. It is ideal for someone who wants to learn how advanced manufacturing and sovereign capability programs are shaped at the highest level and for the right candidate who wants to be part of the team driving Australia’s next generation of onshore electronics manufacturing. What You Will Do As a BDE at Extel, you will help drive Australia’s next chapter of sovereign electronics manufacturing. This role is central to expanding Extel’s presence across priority sectors. Your responsibilities will include: Pipeline Development Map the Australian advanced technology landscape. Identify high-value target accounts and emerging opportunities. Secure introductory meetings with target accounts across priority sectors. Customer and Industry Engagement Support and participate in customer briefings, capability presentations and executive-level meetings. Prepare pitch materials, proposals and early-stage briefs. Build and nurture relationships across the ecosystem of priority sectors. Opportunity Management Qualify opportunities and support responses across the RFx and bid landscape. Maintain clean CRM processes and accurate reporting. Market and Program Intelligence Track procurement pathways, initiatives and buying intent cycles. Identify areas where Extel’s manufacturing capability aligns to sector requirements. Provide insights that shape Extel’s growth strategy and account priorities. Internal Collaboration Work alongside engineering and production teams to translate customer needs into clear internal briefs. Ensure alignment between market demand and Extel’s engineering, manufacturing and lifecycle offerings. Industry Representation Represent Extel at national events and engagements. Act as a front-line ambassador for Extel’s advanced manufacturing capabilities at a market and industry level. Your Mission To position Extel as Australia’s sovereign electronics manufacturer and the partner of choice for companies building critical technologies that must be designed, manufactured and sustained onshore. Your work will ensure Extel is present in every conversation shaping the future of Australian advanced manufacturing and sovereign capability. You will help open doors, build pathways and fuel the growth engine that enables Australia to design and build the technologies that matter most. What We Are Looking For Experience in BD, sales, account management or customer-facing roles (1 to 4 years). Strong communication, presentation and relationship-building ability. Interest in Defence, advanced technology or engineering-led environments. Highly organised with strong follow-through and CRM discipline. Confident, curious, proactive and eager to learn. Ability to understand and articulate technical concepts (training provided). Also Beneficial Exposure to Defence, aerospace, robotics, autonomous systems, contract manufacturing or electronics. Understanding of complex procurement pathways in manufacturing and a broad range of verticals. What You Will Get Direct coaching from the Chief Growth Officer.
