School of Civil Engineering – Faculty of EAIT Full-time (100%), fixed-term position until 26 June 2026 Base salary will be in the range $82,057.75 - $109,246.18 + 17% Superannuation (Academic Level A) Visa sponsorship is not available for this position Based at our St Lucia Campus - Brisbane About This Opportunity We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow / Research Officer in geotechnical engineering with a strong background in electromagnetic methods and data analysis who can contribute towards our program of research. This exciting opportunity involves conducting research on the electromagnetic characterisation of geomaterials. Additionally, you will participate in a TMR-funded project focused on analysing the conditions along transport infrastructure in North Queensland. Key responsibilities will include: Research: Analysing remote-sensing data to detect infrastructure movement, conducting lab tests to characterise geomaterials, and producing high-quality research. It includes contributing to funding applications, collaborating on projects, supporting knowledge translation and potential commercialisation, and developing a coherent research program using best-practice methodologies. Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervising research students, supporting their development through effective feedback and coaching, managing research staff in line with university policies, and promptly resolving any conflicts or grievances. Teaching: Assisting senior academics in delivering high-quality teaching materials, contributing to coursework teaching, and supporting the supervision, mentoring, and training of Honours and postgraduate students. Citizenship and Service: Demonstrating UQ-aligned citizenship, collaborating on priority activities, supporting unit operations, contributing to service and committee work, engaging in external service, and beginning to build partnerships with industry, government, and the community. About You Completion or near completion of a PhD in geotechnical engineering. An emerging profile in research in the discipline area. Evidence of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences. Evidence of contributions towards successfully obtaining external research funding. Some experience in meaningful internal service roles and contributions towards external activities.
