Lead Software Engineer

We’re partnering with a large, ASX-listed organisation looking for a Lead Engineer to help shape and scale their customer-facing digital platforms across web and mobile. This role sits in a core digital technology team, working on high-visibility customer experiences and widely used digital products across Australia. The role As Lead Engineer, you’ll be the technical driver for a key digital domain, balancing hands‑on engineering with architectural leadership and stakeholder engagement. You will Help lift engineering practices across the team (code quality, testing, observability, CI/CD, documentation), and own the technical direction for your area Spend roughly 70% of your time on architecture, solution design, and stakeholder management, and 30% hands‑on coding and technical oversight Lead and mentor offshore engineering squads Work closely with Product, Architecture, Security and other delivery teams to align on patterns, standards and roadmaps Make and justify technical decisions around scalability, resilience, performance and maintainability You’ll be a key voice in how the digital stack evolves, ensuring solutions are robust, well‑designed and aligned with broader platform strategy. Tech environment You’ll be operating primarily across: React, TypeScript, Node.js (microservices / APIs) SQS, RabbitMQ, or Kafka AWS, CI/CD, Git You don’t need to be the deepest specialist in every tool, but you do need to be confident leading discussions on architecture, trade‑offs and best practice in this ecosystem. About you You’re likely currently a Lead Engineer, Principal Engineer or very strong Senior Engineer ready to formally step into a lead role. You’ll bring: Strong architectural experience in modern web/distributed systems A solid background with Node.js, React, TypeScript, AWS Proven experience influencing technical decisions and explaining trade‑offs to non‑technical stakeholders Experience leading or mentoring offshore teams (or distributed squads) Comfort balancing hands‑on coding with design, leadership and stakeholder work Clear communication style and the ability to simplify complex technical concepts Experience in large‑scale, complex enterprise environments will be highly regarded.
