Director Licensing & Approvals Join the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water as a Director to shape policy that protects biodiversity, heritage and animal welfare. We are looking for a leader who can drive state‑wide licensing and approvals, collaborate across government, industry and community, and build a culture of accountability and respect. Senior Executive Band 1 – Salary relative to experience: $224,226 to $249,172 TRP. Office location upon negotiation across NSW, hybrid working supported. About the role In the Conservation Programs, Heritage and Regulation team, the Director Licensing & Approvals leads a high‑impact regulatory function delivering licensing and approval programs under the Biodiversity Conservation Act, the Animal Research Act and related legislation. Responsibilities Design, implement, review, and evaluate state‑wide licensing and approval programmes under the Biodiversity Conservation Act, the Animal Research Act and related legislation. Coordinate and collaborate with internal teams, senior executives, and external stakeholders to shape licensing outcomes. Advise senior leadership on evidence‑based licensing decisions, balancing stakeholder interests, legal obligations, and public expectations. Promote a culture of accountability, respect, and continuous improvement within the regulatory team. Represent the department at forums, workshops, and advisory panels to communicate licensing outcomes and build public trust. Qualifications & Experience Experience in regulation, licensing or environmental compliance with knowledge of the Biodiversity Conservation Act and the Animal Research Act. Proven leadership of teams through complex policy and operational challenges. Strong stakeholder‑management, evidence‑based decision‑making, and communication skills. Ability to balance stakeholder interests, legal obligations, and public expectations. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent experience. About You You bring deep regulatory experience, strong stakeholder management, and a track record of leading teams through complex legislative and operational environments. You communicate effectively, build trust, and are motivated to deliver measurable environmental benefits for NSW.
