About our team Chief Operating Officer Group | Enterprise Technology Services | Cyber Risk Services | Cyber Detection and Response The Cyber Detection and Response (CDR) section is responsible for managing the Department's computer network defence and cyber security incident response plan. CDR continuously monitors, detects, responds, and reports on cyber security incidents and vulnerabilities to assess the level of threat posed to the Department. The section is also responsible for executing the appropriate response to confirmed cyber incidents, as well as providing technical expertise and capability to manage the Department's secure investigations environment, network defence technology, and data collection and analysis systems. The Cyber Forensics Team has been established by the Cyber Detection and Response Section, to provide a key capability to the Department and other government agencies. Cyber Forensics Examiners lead the provision of the Department's cyber forensic capability. They source, analyse, and make recommendations based on data recovered from digital devices as part of highly complex or sensitive investigations into matters related to security, fraud, and code of conduct. Duties and responsibilities Lead and supervise technical cyber forensics examiners, overseeing their training, casework, and professional development in line with competency frameworks Maintain up-to-date industry qualifications, ensure team proficiency through regular testing, and contribute to the development and revision of forensic policies and procedures Conduct and oversee complex digital forensic examinations, ensuring all evidence is received, logged, evaluated, and processed according to laboratory standards Complete administrative tasks, including reporting and record keeping, and communicate findings clearly to internal and external stakeholders Promote a positive workplace culture, collaborating with team members to meet deadlines and ensure resources are used efficiently, effectively, and lawfully. Additional information Tertiary qualifications and / or demonstrated experience in a relevant discipline (baccalaureate or advanced degree in computer science or forensic science or, equivalent up to date and current industry recognised certifications and technical experience) will be highly regarded. Desired skills Possess relevant industry qualifications (CCE, CFCE, Cellebrite, NUIX), or have the ability to obtain An ability to learn new skills, gain knowledge in a range of technologies, and attain specialised qualifications Extensive experience with forensic cyber investigation procedures and toolkits (including but not limited to X-ways, Axiom, Cellebrite, FTK, Nuix, etc.) Work experience in a Cyber Forensics Laboratory or Cyber Security Environment, including knowledge of the Information Security Manual (ISM) and Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) Knowledge of Operating Systems including Windows, iOS, Android, MacOS, and Linux Knowledge of various computer hardware components belonging to desktops, laptops, and other associated devices Knowledge of systems administrations of Windows Systems Knowledge of cyber security or ICT related fields and concepts such as gateways, networking, virtual machines, cyber incident response, cyber security operations, cyber policy and risk management.
