As a Policy Officer, you are responsible for supporting the identification, research and analysis of policy issues that enhance services for vulnerable people. You will assist in researching policy and practice issues, contribute to the preparation of advice and documentation, and engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that policy work is evidence-based, aligned with legislative frameworks, and responsive to sectoral needs. Your Key Responsibilities Contribute to research and analysis on policy issues affecting vulnerable people, including those in the child protection and safeguarding, youth justice, guardianship, disability, aged care, and mental health sectors. Assist in the preparation of written materials such as briefing notes, reports, submissions and discussion papers that support evidence-based decision making. Support senior staff in coordinating and contributing to inter‑departmental, sectoral and stakeholder meetings, including preparing agendas, background papers and summary notes. Assist in collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders, including government and non‑government organisations, to gather insights and support policy development. Participate in the development and review of policy positions and legislative frameworks, providing timely and well‑considered advice that aligns with organisational objectives and government priorities. Maintain a current understanding of relevant legislation, regulatory environments and service delivery systems relating to vulnerable populations. Manage priorities and tasks with limited direction within established frameworks, exercising sound judgment and escalating issues when necessary. Qualifications and Conditions There are no mandatory qualifications required to undertake this role, however formal qualifications in law, policy or government relations would be highly regarded.
