Overview Test Engineer role at Catapult . Our mission is to improve the performance of athletes and teams through engineering the premier technology platform for sport. We have been at the forefront of sports technology and science since 2006, actively changing the industry’s future. Our solutions help athletes and coaches “play smart” in a world where 1% can mean the difference between winning and losing. Based in Melbourne, you will be a key player in the Research & Development team that designs Catapult’s wearable tracking hardware and related stadium infrastructure products for the elite sports industry. What You’ll Do Develop frameworks, test harnesses and scripts to test firmware algorithms, Edge Computing applications which interface Catapult wearables with the cloud, and IoT backends. Develop and implement test strategies, plans, and cases for new and existing features; review and contribute to those developed by colleagues. Write testing infrastructure/tools/automation components that are reliable, well documented, and have useful, robust utilities. Adopt test automation frameworks and tools to aggressively automate test processes. Promote innovation, drive best practices, and contribute to the continuous improvement of testing processes and methodologies. Monitor and report on testing progress, defect trends, and overall quality metrics. Analyse and interpret logging and diagnostic information; find, isolate and report issues using bug tracking software and work with developers to resolve them. Collaborate with tech leads, product managers, and other stakeholders to align on priorities, tradeoffs and risk, and influence product design to improve testability and quality from the start. Contribute to team engineering processes, design meetings and code reviews to continuously improve quality. Build and maintain relationships with test engineering peers across firmware and software teams to coordinate efforts and end-to-end testing of user workflows. Stay up-to-date with industry best practices and emerging technologies in software and firmware testing. Participate in a test engineering “chapter” to share best practices. Occasionally provide technical support to customers (which may be on weekends or after hours). What You’ll Need Formal qualifications in electronics or software engineering. At least 3 years of firmware testing experience. At least 2 years experience with the Python programming language. Demonstrated experience with IoT technologies (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure). Knowledge of Linux operating systems. Knowledge of wireless technologies (BLE, Wi-Fi, UWB). Experience with Git and test automation frameworks/tools. Ability to write clear, concise, and comprehensive test plans and test cases. Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with users, cross-functional teams, and product management to understand requirements and designs. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks. Motivation, accountability, initiative, scientific rigor and diligence; proactive problem solving and attention to detail. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal specifications. Mindset that testing adds customer value and supports product quality and athlete performance. Experience with electronics measuring equipment is highly desired. Experience with TestRail and Atlassian tools is highly desired. Experience with Rust or willingness to learn it is desired. Why Catapult?
