Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Associate Healthcare Scientist The closing date is 23 November 2025 We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Practitioner in the Lung Function Unit at Cambridge University Hospitals NHSFT. The department is situated within a state of the art unit on two separate sites and provides a diagnostic service to most specialties within the hospital. It is the intention that if you do not hold the requisite qualifications to successfully apply to be listed on the Academy of Healthcare Science assured voluntary register, you will at some point during your role, complete either the BSc (Hons) Degree Apprenticeship in Respiratory and Sleep Physiology Level 6 over a 3 year timeframe or the Respiratory Graduate Diploma completed over a 1 year period. We would ask you to review who can be funded to complete an apprenticeship by reviewing the following site before applying: You will also be expected to undertake the ARTP Practitioner qualification. There will then be the opportunity to progress to a Band 5 Clinical Respiratory Physiologist position upon successful completion of the BSc programme and completion of the ARTP Practitioner qualification. If you meet the required qualifications and experience you would be eligible to apply for The Academy for Healthcare Science Practitioner Register and hence a Band 5 role. Main duties of the job As Associate Practitioner you will be required to assess the lung function of patients referred to the laboratory by conducting and reporting appropriate tests accurately, professionally and in accordance with the Association for Respiratory Technology & Physiology (ARTP)/European Respiratory Society (ERS) guidelines. Job responsibilities We are co-located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus with Royal Papworth Hospital and there will be an expectation of some cross-site working between the two services, with potential for supporting the Heart and Lung Research Institute. We have a fantastic group of respiratory physiologists in the department and we invite you to join this dynamic and ever excelling IQIPS accredited team. Once established within the role there will be an expectation for you to be involved in non-clinical roles, departmental audits and respiratory research. The department is also involved with commercial and non-commercial research, which is continually undertaken within the department. We are currently a clinical excellence site for a number of commercial research trials. Person Specification Qualifications Healthcare Science related Vocational Qualification Level 3 or equivalent level OR 3 A-levels grade A‑C, including a science subject ARTP Part I or ARTP Associate Practitioner Qualification BSc in science related qualification to human physiology BSc in science related qualification or similar undergraduate degree Experience Experience of working in a service level industry Previous experience of working with the general public Experience of undertaking scientific measurements to documented quality standards Experience in a pulmonary function department Experience of working with patients in healthcare Knowledge A demonstrable sound understanding of scientific principles Evidence of a science related project Good standard of respiratory physiology knowledge Knowledge of lung function guidelines Skills Demonstrable excellent communication skills in different situations Ability to carry out routine tests of lung function Additional Requirements The ability to understand and behave at all times, towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of safe, kind, excellent.
