Our shared values shape everything that we do at Render and are central to everything we do as a company: Lead Boldly with Courageous Innovation Integrity & Accountability Put Customers at the Center The role you will play As a Software Engineer at Render, you are a back-end focused engineer who is passionate about all aspects of excellent developer experiences including architecting and developing simple yet powerful APIs, authoring clear and informative documentation, building compelling integration applications, and interacting with internal and external customers to incorporate feedback. You will be an expert in Python code bases and demonstrate both high code velocity and quality simultaneously. The backend team consists of some of the most dynamic and tenured software engineers at Render, and is motivated to deliver high quality code for internal and external integrations that support our product-led strategy. Key responsibilities of the role will include: Work within the Backend team to develop a scalable, reliable, and high-performance APIs Be a proactive member of system scoping discussions, technical specifications and code reviews Maintain best practices for backend infrastructure focusing on scalability and reliability Create robust test cases for new platform and API capabilities Roll out changes and migrations to customers in an agile manner with backward compatibility Work with and mentor fellow engineers through code reviews and technical sessions Troubleshoot production issues across various service levels Collaborate with engineers, technical leaders, product managers, and designers to scope out and deliver on new features and roadmap items On-site mentorship and cross team collaboration sessions Our ideal candidate must have A BS degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or relevant engineering field 4+ years of professional backend software development, including developing API products Deep understanding of modern Python and the ecosystem Solid understanding of the full stack of technologies needed to build and run APIs (Render’s API is built using FastAPI) Expertise in Restful API design and management Proficient in SQL, database design, with a good understanding of optimisation and performance best practices Exposure to working within AWS Production experience with observability tooling, Datadog, New Relic or similar Solid understanding of CI/CD methodologies and experience in building pipelines Experience with agile software development methodologies Motivated to develop high quality code, ability to engage with all necessary stakeholders to ensure that happens Experience with gathering and documenting technical requirements and specifications Excellent communication, collaboration, and delegation skills What’s on offer At Render, we’re ‘reimagining connection’ and enabling both our customers, and the communities they exist to serve, to reach their full potential.
