We are seeking an experienced Problem Manager to design and mature problem management practices within a large-scale, secure federal environment. You will take ownership of end-to-end problem processes, ensuring that service stability and continuous improvement become embedded in daily operations. Location: Canberra (on site) Clearance: NV1 mandatory Duration: 12-month contract + 2 extensions Start: ASAP Key Responsibilities Design, document, and implement the Problem Management framework, aligned to ITIL principles and agency standards. Define and maintain criteria for identifying and prioritising recurring incidents and root causes. Partner with service providers and internal operations teams to conduct proactive problem reviews and drive systemic fixes. Lead and facilitate Root Cause Analysis (RCA) sessions, coordinating across technical domains to identify, record, and eliminate underlying issues. Establish reporting and trend analysis to reduce major incident frequency and improve service availability. Support incident, change, and configuration management functions to ensure cross‑process alignment. Prepare regular dashboards and insights for senior stakeholders, highlighting risk areas and opportunities for service enhancement. Skills and Experience Required Proven experience in Problem Management within large, complex ICT environments – ideally federal government or defence. Strong understanding of ITIL practices, particularly around incident, change, and problem processes. Demonstrated ability to lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and coordinate cross‑functional teams to implement long‑term solutions. Experience working with managed service providers or multiple vendors in an enterprise service delivery context. Excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to interpret technical detail and present clear findings to non‑technical stakeholders. Sound knowledge of service reporting, trend analysis, and data‑driven continuous improvement. Proven track record in driving service stability, reducing recurring incidents, and improving overall customer experience. NV1 clearance essential (NV2 highly regarded).
